What queer affirming therapy looks like at Be/Here.

Updated: May 30

At Be/Here, we know how exhausting it can be to navigate mental health services that don’t see you fully—or worse, ask you to shrink or explain parts of yourself just to access support.

That’s exactly why we exist.

Be/Here is a queer-led, trauma-informed mental health organisation supporting LGBTQIA+ people across Greater Manchester and beyond. We offer free, inclusive therapy, workshops and support groups that are rooted in lived experience, softness, and solidarity—not systems that ask you to “fix” yourself to fit in.

💛 Why Affirming Support Matters

We’ve heard the same story over and over again from our community:“I tried therapy, but I had to spend half the session educating my therapist on pronouns, polyamory, or why I was scared to walk down the street.”

That’s not care.

Queer-affirming support is more than “inclusive language.” It’s about being held without having to explain your whole existence. It’s about safety. It’s about seeing your queerness, your transness, your culture, your neurodivergence—not as barriers to be worked around, but as vital parts of who you are.

🌈 What Makes Be/Here Different

We’re not a clinical service. We’re not here to “treat” you. We’re here to walk beside you, gently and respectfully, at your own pace.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • All of our facilitators and therapists are queer, trans, or neurodivergent —many of us are all of those things.

  • We work from a trauma-informed, person-centred place.

  • Our spaces are soft, warm, and welcoming—not intimidating or clinical.

  • We never ask you to “perform” your pain to be taken seriously.

You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve care. You don’t need to be “doing better” to show up. You just need to know: there’s a space here for you.

🌿 Who Our Spaces Are For

Our work is grounded in the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people most often left out of mainstream care:

  • Trans and non-binary people

  • QTIPOC (Queer, Trans, Intersex People of Colour)

  • Neurodivergent and disabled LGBTQIA+ folks

  • Queer people living with trauma, poverty, or housing insecurity

  • Those navigating the grief and joy of coming into themselves

If you’ve felt invisible or exhausted in other support spaces, Be/Here might feel different.

✨ What Support Looks Like with Us

We offer care in different forms, because our needs aren’t one-size-fits-all:

  • Therapy sessions that centre your pace and your story

  • Peer-led support groups like Trans+ Circles and Queer Grief Spaces

  • Mental health workshops focused on emotional regulation, self-trust, and community resilience

  • Community care drop-ins where you can just exist with other people who get it

You don’t have to show up as your “best self.” You just have to show up as you.

📌 How to Connect

Our upcoming events and support spaces are listed on our website. They’re free to attend, and open to anyone who feels they need them. We prioritise care over criteria.

Or reach out to us directly—we’ll always try to point you somewhere supportive, even if it’s not with us.

You are not too much. You are not behind. You are already worthy of care.

With love and light,

Vanessa at Be/Here
