Why We Created Be/Here: A Queer Approach to LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Support

Updated: Jul 15, 2025

We created Be/Here because we couldn’t find what we needed. So, we built it for ourselves and for you.

Queer mental health support should feel like exhaling. It should feel like being seen without having to explain everything first. However, too often, LGBTQIA+ individuals are forced to shrink themselves just to access care.

We knew something had to change.

LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Support Built by Our Community

Be/Here is a queer-led mental health service that offers free support groups, accessible therapy, and inclusive LGBTQIA+ mental health workshops for LGBTQIA+ people in Greater Manchester and beyond.

Everything we do is grounded in the belief that care must be person-centred. This means we listen first, label never, and walk with you as you define what healing looks like for you.

We're not here to diagnose and dismiss.

Instead, we're here to hold space, honour complexity, and make support feel safe and accessible for everyone.

Our Vision for Queer Mental Health Support

At Be/Here, we envision a world where mental health support is truly reflective of the diverse experiences within the LGBTQIA+ community. This vision drives our commitment to creating safe spaces where individuals can express themselves freely.

Why Community Matters

Community is vital in the quest for mental health support. When people can share their experiences with others who understand, healing becomes more achievable. This collective understanding fosters empathy and strength among community members.

We’re Not “Traditional” – And That’s the Point

Many of us have experienced mainstream mental health care that didn’t reflect who we are. We've listened to the stories of unconscious biases or unprofessional therapists who have canceled working with trans or nonbinary clients via text or email.

You deserve more than a tick-box version of “inclusive.”

At Be/Here, we offer:

✔️ LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy

✔️ Free mental health support groups

✔️ Person-centred care grounded in lived experience

✔️ Free Lunch & Learn sessions for workplaces

✔️ Trauma-informed and neurodivergent-aware spaces

We’re redefining what it means to feel supported.

Feedback from Our Community

The voices from our community encourage us daily. Here’s what we hear:

“I finally feel safe in a room.”
“You don’t make me feel like I have to explain my identity.”
“This is the first time therapy didn’t feel scary.”

These heartfelt statements are why we’re here. That’s why we stay committed to our mission.

Accessing Support that Respects Your Identity

In a world where mainstream mental health services may fall short, finding support that respects your identity is crucial. Be/Here serves as a haven for those seeking validation and understanding.

Our therapists are trained specifically to address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. This specialized training helps us provide a higher level of support that's affirming and understanding.

Why Choose Us?

When you choose Be/Here, you're not just choosing a service; you're joining a community. A community that celebrates your identity and all the experiences that come with it.

No one should have to feel uncomfortable or erased in seeking support. It’s vital to find a space that empowers you to embrace who you are.

Want to Learn More or Work With Us?

Be/Here is open to anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community looking for a place to land, connect, heal, or grow.

We also collaborate with workplaces and organizations wanting to support their LGBTQIA+ staff through training and inclusive sessions.

✨ Whether you're a queer person looking for support or an ally wanting to do better—you’re welcome here.

In conclusion, while there is still much work to do in the realm of mental health care, Be/Here strives to make a difference. Join us in fostering a community where every person feels valued, understood, and supported on their mental health journey. Let’s work together towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
