Celebrating Non-Binary Awareness Week: You Belong, Just As You Are

"They" and "Them" written on tiles against a vibrant rainbow-striped background, conveying inclusivity and diversity.

Non-Binary Awareness Week is here, and at Be/Here, we’re holding space to honour the beauty, resilience, and diversity of non-binary people in our community. Whether you’ve known your gender for years, are still exploring, or don’t feel like you fit into any particular box, we see you, and we celebrate you.

So, what does it mean to be non-binary?

Non-binary is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity doesn’t sit neatly within the categories of “man” or “woman.” Some non-binary people feel like a mix of both. Some individuals don’t identify with any particular gender. Others might shift between genders over time. And all of that is completely valid.

Non-binary people might use they/them pronouns, but not always. Some might still use she/her, he/him, or a combination. Gender identity and pronouns are deeply personal, and no one else gets to define them for you.

The world isn’t always set up for us

We live in a society that still clings tightly to binary ideas about gender. That can make it hard to feel safe, understood, or included — especially when paperwork, services, or everyday interactions don’t reflect who we are.

Non-binary people often face higher rates of discrimination, misgendering, and mental health challenges — not because of who they are, but because of how the world responds to them.

That’s why weeks like this matter. They remind us that non-binary people have always existed — across cultures and throughout history — and will continue to do so. This is not a trend. It’s the truth.

At Be/Here, we’re here for you this Non-Binary Awareness Week

Whether you’re non-binary, questioning, or just need a space where you don’t have to explain yourself, Be/Here is for you. Our therapy sessions are gender-affirming. Our workshops are designed to be inclusive, not just in theory, but in practice. And our community groups offer a space to be your whole self — messy, joyful, uncertain, or proud.

This Non-Binary Awareness Week, we’re not just raising a flag — we’re raising our voices. For visibility. For access. For care that meets people where they are, not where systems expect them to be.

You deserve support that sees you. You deserve to feel safe in your skin. You deserve to exist, just as you are.

And if you’re reading this and feeling unsure about your gender, about your place in the world, know this:

You don’t have to have it all figured out.

You are not alone.

You are valid.

You belong.

With love, Vanessa at Be/Here 💛
